SUMMARY:Plastic Pollution: Health\, Climate\, and Solutions
DESCRIPTION:The problem with plastic goes way past those ubiquitous and annoying plastic straws and bags. When microplastics are being found in fetal tissue\, the scale of the problem isn’t about personal habits but systems–and that’s the scale of the solutions we need. \nDid we mention that plastics *are* fossil fuels? And that they’re the industry’s hedge to stay relevant as the world moves away from oil and gas for energy? It’s time for plastics to go! \nWe are excited to have Eileen Ryan\, leader of Beyond Plastics Greater Boston\, join us for a webinar about plastic pollution. She is on the steering committee of Plastic Free Mass. In addition to her work educating people about the perils of plastics she uses her creative talents to make costumes and art as a climate and social justice activist. Eileen lives in Watertown and is the mother of three grown children and a grandmother of two.

SUMMARY:Two Eco-Poets: A Conversation About Climate
DESCRIPTION:Join poets Andy Oram and Deborah Leipzeiger for an evening of Jewish eco-poetry and discussion. Andy and Deborah will read from their works\, followed by time for discussion and reflection\, as well as your own written responses. The evening will be facilitated by Rabbi Katy Allen. \n \nDeborah Leipziger is an author\, poet\, and advisor on sustainability. Born in Brazil\, Ms. Leipziger is the author of several books on sustainability and human rights. Her collection of ecopoems\, Tell Me\, was published in 2026 by Lily Poetry Review Books. Her work appears in numerous anthologies\, including The Nature of our Times and Tree Lines: 21st Century American Poems. Her poems have been published in ten countries in such magazines as Revista Cardenal\, Inkwell\, The Bombay Literary Magazine\, and Salamander. She is currently working on a Lexicon of Change\, which shares the vocabulary we need for social and environmental transformation. \nDeborah was a 2023-2024 Creative Community Fellow\, selected by JArts\, a Poet-in-Residence at the Vilna Shul\, a cultural center in Boston and a Writer in Residence at Northeastern University. She is a recipient of grants from the Brookline Arts Commission and a JOTA Fellowship from Brandeis University. \n \nAndy Oram is a writer and editor in the computer field. Andy also writes often on health IT\, on policy issues related to the Internet\, and on trends affecting technical innovation and its effects on society. Print publications where his work has appeared include The Economist\, Communications of the ACM\, Copyright World\, the Journal of Information Technology & Politics\, Vanguardia Dossier\, and Internet Law and Business. He has lived in the Boston\, Massachusetts area for more than 30 years. He self-published a memoir\, “Backtraces: Three Decades of Computing\, Communities\, and Critiques” and his poems have appeared more than in 70 journals and anthologies.
