SUMMARY:Caring for the Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:A weekend retreat for those doing emotional labor—such as therapists\, healthcare workers\, and climate justice organizers—using the Work That Reconnects spiral to process climate grief and build resilience together. The workshop features an anti-oppression approach\, focuses on resistance actions\, offers vegan and gluten-free meals\, is wheelchair accessible\, and accommodates neurodivergent needs. \nThis gathering is for anyone who identifies as doing emotional labor in their daily work or activism\, including: \n\n\n\nMental health\, social work\, and healthcare professionals\nClimate and social justice organizers and activists\nCaretakers\, mutual aid workers\, and community support roles\nAnyone who regularly holds space for the pain of others or for the pain of the world\n\n\n\nWe offer this workshop specifically for people who do emotional labor because this work has been consistently forgotten\, undervalued\, and disrespected under capitalism. It is work that disproportionately falls to women\, people of color\, queer and trans people\, and disabled people. We believe a just world is one in which emotional labor is taken seriously\, fairly compensated\, and supported by care for those who carry it. This workshop is our small and humble contribution toward bringing that world into being. \nCost is sliding scale ($0–$500) with free scholarships for BIPOC and low-income participants. Full attendance\, including an integration call\, is expected. \nFor more information\, click here \nAbout the Co-facilitators\nJulia Levine (she/her) is a New York-based social worker with theatre roots. She brings drama therapy into her social work practice to address mental health implications of the climate crisis with individuals and groups. Julia currently provides therapy and case management for people across the lifespan\, prioritizing trusting and collaborative relationships as the foundation for healing. She is drawn to practicing Work That Reconnects because of the integrative\, iterative\, and transformative nature of the spiral to support life on earth. You can reach Julia via Signal at 314-313-1914  or via email at juliaslevine@gmail.com  \nAlex Chambers (they/them) is a climate justice organizer who engages in direct action and civil disobedience to mitigate the worst impacts of climate breakdown and ecological collapse. Living outside the gender binary taught them to notice where systems draw hard lines between people from different walks of life\, and between humans and the living world. They’ve been facilitating climate grief circles for the past five years and are currently developing their Work That Reconnects facilitation skills. You can reach Alex via Signal/text at 774-804-2270 or email at alex@foragedlandscape.com

SUMMARY:Climate Justice Passover Seder
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Climate Justice Passover Seder on April 2 at The Pryde! \nEveryone who says climate change and energy empires can’t be overcome can look to Exodus for guidance on how to do the impossible. (And if we could leave Egypt under the guidance of that hothead Moses\, maybe perfection isn’t a necessary condition for progress.) Our seder will focus on lessons that speak to how we can emerge from bondage\, throw off our multiple pharaohs\, and build something worth preserving–for all of us. \nThis will be a vegetarian potluck (no beef\, pork\, chicken\, or fish). Vegan preferred if possible (no dairy or eggs). Please do not bring anything made with wheat flour aside from matzah or matzah meal. Please let us know if you can bring charoset\, maror\, or karpas (bitter herbs). \n\nREGISTER HERE. After you register\, we’ll send you an email for you to let us know if you plan to bring a dish to share\, and if you have any dietary restrictions. \nNeed a recipe or an idea? Let us know! \nWe are honored to host our Passover seder this year at The Pryde\, Boston’s first LGBTQ+ senior housing community. \nApril 2 at 6 PM\nat\nThe Pryde\n59 Harvard Ave.\nHyde Park\, MA 02136 \nPARKING: There is on-street parking\, and also a municipal parking lot in front of the Boston Public Library next door to the Pryde.\nPUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Commuter rail stations on the Franklin Line (Hyde Park Station) and Fairmount Line (Fairmont Station) are a few blocks away. So are Boston busses #39 and #24.

SUMMARY:Housing and Climate with Dan Ruben
DESCRIPTION:We need to think about the intersection of climate change and housing beyond our HVAC systems. \nHow does climate change affect housing costs\, particularly in the face of growing migration? \nHow does housing affect climate change\, particularly as we seek to build new units? How can changes to zoning laws affect greenhouse gas emissions and save trees? \nDan Ruben teaches Sustainable Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism at Boston University and the University of Southern Maine. He wrote the textbook\, “Sustainable Hospitality.” \nDan founded a sustainable hotel organization\, Boston Green Tourism\, in 2005 and led it until 2019. In that role\, he organized over 100 sustainable hotel workshops and webinars for local\, state\, and U.S. hoteliers. Dan was the 2014 Sustainable Lodging Person of the Year. Boston Green Tourism earned an EPA Environmental Merit Award. \nPreviously\, Dan was the executive director of the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Conventions\, which implemented environmental best practices at the 2004 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. CERC won the international Environmentally Responsible Meeting Award and two EPA awards. \nDan is the Chair of Green Newton. He leads its Building Standards Committee which persuaded developers to build Passive House\, all-electric\, low embodied carbon developments\, and persuaded the City of Newton to upgrade its sustainability requirements for new buildings.

SUMMARY:Help Energize Climate Voters!
DESCRIPTION:Research shows that majorities of registered voters prefer candidates who support action on the climate\, want development of clean energy sources\, and support policies to reduce the pollution that causes global warming. However\, an estimated 11.2 million environmentalists did not vote in the 2024 presidential election\, and many more skip midterm\, state\, and local elections. \nOur speaker\, Nathaniel Stinnett\, will share strategies to motivate the climate voter.  He is the Founder & Executive Director of the Environmental Voter Project.   Named one of five global “climate visionaries” by The New York Times in 2018\, and dubbed “The Voting Guru” by Grist magazine\, Stinnett is a frequent expert speaker on cutting-edge campaign techniques and the behavioral science behind getting people to vote.

SUMMARY:June 10th Statewide Rally-- People Over Utility Profits
DESCRIPTION:Energy utility corporations are raking in record profits while we’re struggling to pay our energy bills. With our money in hand\, utilities like Eversource\, National Grid\, and Berkshire Gas are attempting to increase our reliance on expensive and polluting fossil fuels\, destroying our health and our planet. These utilities spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year lobbying Massachusetts legislators to cut back on climate goals and allow them to keep polluting as much as they want. \nOn June 10th\, Mass Power Forward is holding a statewide rally with three locations across MA asking legislators to cut our ties to utilities and pass a climate bill that puts people over utility profits. \nAt the time of the rally\, legislators will have just 50 days to pass climate legislation to help make energy clean and affordable. Join us and make your voice heard! \nRSVP here \nRally Locations for June 10th \nBoston: 1pm. Meet at the Eversource HQ at 800 Boylston St (the Prudential) take a “follow the money” tour through Boston to the Statehouse. We will rally at the Statehouse at 2:30pm. SUMMARY:Digging Deep: How Two Congregations Decided to Go Geothermal
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a geothermal webinar co-hosted by MassIPL\, PA IPL\, and GreenerU. Geothermal installations still qualify for a 30-40%+ federal direct pay incentive\, often making them cost-competitive when replacing a fossil fuel heating system. You’ll hear directly from two congregations — Wellesley Village Church (MA) and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church (PA) — about how they went through a discernment process and decided geothermal was right for them.

SUMMARY:Jewish Earth Alliance 2026 Pre-Tisha B’av Virtual Lobby Day
DESCRIPTION:Although we still mourn the destruction of the Temple on Tisha B’av\, we know that this tragic day was the beginning of a transformation that enabled our people to survive and thrive. From the ashes of the Temple\, Jews built a new center of Judaism in Yavneh. Their innovations became the rabbinic Judaism that we practice today. \nThings may look bleak now—but when have we ever backed down from “doing the work”? And while there are many challenges\, there are also genuine opportunities\, including: \n\nThis session of Congress isn’t over. The Farm Bill just passed the House and will now be debated in the Senate.\nCongress is under pressure to lower gas and electricity prices. Today\, the best way to affordability is cheap\, clean energy from sun and wind.\nThe Administration just released a long-awaited report on FEMA. Now the pressure is on Congress to act to protect communities suffering from climate-fueled disasters.\nWe can win\, and in important ways\, we already are! The vast majority of new electricity generation is from renewables\, and sales of electric cars are growing.\n\nTisha B’av is not only a day of mourning for what has been lost. It is also a day when we recall how our ancestors picked up the pieces and built for the future. Let’s honor this legacy by advocating for the country and the world we want: A world with healthy air and water\, safe homes and communities\, and a thriving web of life to support us and our neighbors around the world. \nPlease join JCAN-MA and other activists in Massachusetts to lobby Senators Markey and Warren on July 21. They’re leaders on science-based climate and energy policy\, but they still need to hear from us about how important it is that they continue to fight for us and our ecosystems. \nPlease register here! Also\, please let us know if you know anyone in Alabama\, Arizona\, Delaware\, Idaho\, Kansas\, Kentucky\, Louisiana\, Minnesota\, or West Virginia who would like to get involved. \nExact times to be determined; each call will last no more than 30 minutes. \nPlease send questions and comments to deborahnamkrane@proton.me

SUMMARY:Tisha B’Av Gathering (Hosted by JCAN-MA)
DESCRIPTION:As the sun sets on Tisha B’Av\, the most sorrowful day on the Jewish calendar\, we will gather to read Eicha (Lamentations)—an ancient text mourning the catastrophic destruction of Jerusalem 2\,500 years ago: its women\, children\, animals\, buildings\, gates\, and walls. \nTogether\, we will take turns reading from the text (bring your phone to follow along)\, and reflect on its relevance today. \nIn this era of climate chaos—of floods\, fires\, and mass displacement—we feel the destruction anew. Tisha B’Av offers us a moment to grieve not only the ruins of the past\, but also the devastation happening now across the globe:\nGaza\, Lebanon\, Haiti\, Venezuela\, Congo\, Sudan\, Yemen\, Nigeria\, Syria—and here\, in the United States. \nAs we mourn\, we renew our resolve to take action. The anguished poetry of Lamentations can inspire us to support policies and practices that prevent further harm to our communities and our planet. \nWe are each part of the long\, sacred labor of healing and repair. We refuse to look away. \nLet us grieve together. Let us strengthen one another. Let us repair the world. \nSchedule \n🌊 6:00 PM – Potluck Dinner (Come early (at 4 pm for a swim!))\n📖 8:00 PM – 9 PM Reading of Lamentations and Individual Reflection \nRSVP Required \nPlease email Janet at jcan.intern@gmail.com by Monday evening\, July 20\, 2026 to register.\nThose who register will receive the address.

SUMMARY:Plastic Pollution: Health\, Climate\, and Solutions
DESCRIPTION:The problem with plastic goes way past those ubiquitous and annoying plastic straws and bags. When microplastics are being found in fetal tissue\, the scale of the problem isn’t about personal habits but systems–and that’s the scale of the solutions we need. \nDid we mention that plastics *are* fossil fuels? And that they’re the industry’s hedge to stay relevant as the world moves away from oil and gas for energy? It’s time for plastics to go! \nWe are excited to have Eileen Ryan\, leader of Beyond Plastics Greater Boston\, join us for a webinar about plastic pollution. She is on the steering committee of Plastic Free Mass. In addition to her work educating people about the perils of plastics she uses her creative talents to make costumes and art as a climate and social justice activist. Eileen lives in Watertown and is the mother of three grown children and a grandmother of two.
