SUMMARY:Plastic-Free Future: Protecting People and the Planet
DESCRIPTION:Plastic pollution is everywhere – in our oceans\, our communities\, and even our bodies. But what can we do about it? \nJoin Just Zero and Plastic Free Mass at the New England Aquarium for a conversation about the impacts of plastic on human health and the environment – and the solutions that can help protect both. \nModerated by Kirstie Pecci\, Executive Director of Just Zero and a leading expert on recycling and waste policy\, the panel of experts will explore what we know about the growing impacts of plastics – from our oceans to our bodies – and what individuals\, communities\, and policymakers can do to create a healthier\, less plastic-dependent future. \nPresented in partnership with Just Zero\, an environmental nonprofit working to advance community-centered Zero Waste solutions across the country\, and Plastic Free Mass\, a coalition of more than 40 Massachusetts organizations working to reduce plastic pollution.

SUMMARY:Light the Way: Energy Justice and the One Billion People Left Behind
DESCRIPTION:A hands-on climate justice project your faith community can do: assembling solar lights for families living without electricity. \nPicture finishing your homework by the light of a kerosene lamp. More than 660 million of our neighbors around the world have no light switch on the wall. Hundreds of millions more do have a connection\, but it is too unreliable to count on. Kerosene is expensive\, dangerous\, and it fills small rooms with smoke and the atmosphere with heat-trapping climate pollution. If you have ever wondered where climate justice meets plain human dignity\, this is one of those places. \nOn Tuesday\, November 17 at 7:00 p.m.\, MassIPL and JCAN-MA host SolarBuddy for an online webinar about energy justice and how to lead a solar light workshop of your own. Join us on Zoom from wherever you are to learn about a hands-on climate justice project your congregation can actually do together\, right in your own fellowship hall\, social hall\, or classroom\, with your youth group and the green team working side by side. \nWhat we’ll cover in the webinar\n\nWhat energy poverty really is\, and what it looks like in a family’s daily life\nHow a small solar light can change things for children and families\, told through stories from the people who hand them out on the ground\nWhat it looks like to host a solar light assembly\, where people of all ages build lights together and write notes to the children who will receive them\nHow all of this connects to clean energy work here in Massachusetts\n\nHelp light the way\nSt. Dunstan’s in Dover is hosting a solar light workshop this February\, and your congregation is invited to host one of its own. The webinar will offer ideas for building a solar light project into Hanukkah\, Advent\, Earth Month in 2027\, or any season of your year together. Come learn how you can help light the way with us.
