Dan Ruben teaches Sustainable Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism at Boston University and the University of Southern Maine. He wrote the textbook, “Sustainable Hospitality.”
Dan founded a sustainable hotel organization, Boston Green Tourism, in 2005 and led it until 2019. In that role, he organized over 100 sustainable hotel workshops and webinars for local, state, and U.S. hoteliers. Dan was the 2014 Sustainable Lodging Person of the Year. Boston Green Tourism earned an EPA Environmental Merit Award.
Previously, Dan was the executive director of the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Conventions, which implemented environmental best practices at the 2004 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. CERC won the international Environmentally Responsible Meeting Award and two EPA awards.
Dan is the Chair of Green Newton. He leads its Building Standards Committee which persuaded developers to build Passive House, all-electric, low embodied carbon developments, and persuaded the City of Newton to upgrade its sustainability requirements for new buildings.
