The food, purchasing, and waste disposal choices we make affect the planet. Moving toward a plant-based diet has a powerful impact. And although reduction is the best way to reduce negative purchasing impact, our choices also matter. Some products are toxic and not biodegradable, while others are made from recycled materials, are environmentally friendly, or are compostable.

CREATE A CLIMATE-CONSCIOUS FOOD AND WASTE POLICY

Decide what percent of the food in your community you want to be locally sourced, organic, and plant-based. What percent of your community’s paper purchasing do you want to be 100% recycled? How much waste is the minimum you want your institution to produce? What else is important to your community?

JOIN A FOOD WEBINAR

Over the last few years, Jewish communities have grown increasingly concerned with sourcing food sustainably, and divesting support from conventional systems that harm animals, people, and the planet. JCAN-MA has partnered with organizations and synagogues to put on webinars on the reasons for our food choices, tools and strategies that can help you engage clergy and peers, and many other topics. Join the Jewish movement toward building a kinder, more just, and more sustainable food system! Check out our upcoming and previous webinars.
